You’re Invited to our Fall Harvest!
Join us throughout September and help us harvest the barley fields Eau Claire Distillery uses to make their horsed farmed whisky! A true farm to glass experience!
Important Note: As with all farming, this day is subject to weather conditions. Long sleeves, trousers and gloves recommended.
Binding and Stooking – September 2nd – Bar U Ranch National Historic Site – 10:00am to 3:00pm
Help us stook our fields! The Harvest invites participants to gather sheaves of barley grain cut by horse-drawn vintage farm gear in preparation for threshing. The process is called stooking and it protects and dries unthreshed grain from inclement weather elements – often ominous in Alberta. Field side lunch provided.
Threshing – September 22nd – Bar U Ranch National Historic Site – 10:00am to 3:00pm
The stooked bundles are gathered by volunteers on horse drawn hay racks and transported to the 1920’s era threshing machine, where the grain is separated from the straw. Pitchforks provided.
HERE’S THE UPDATE TO THE UPDATE:
Saturday, October 20th is the Harvest and Volunteer Appreciation Day at the Bar U Ranch.
With the double digit temperatures and sunshine we are expected to get this week, that means the harvest resumes in the foothills. We have rescheduled our Harvest at the Bar U Ranch National Historic Site for this Saturday, October 20th beginning at 11am.
If you want to help pitch bundles or just watch operations please feel free to drop by. Please meet at the Alberta Carriage Supply trailer at 11am for a safety demonstration before the activities begin.
October 13th – Driving Clinic
